Bedding retailer, Linenplace.com, has an outstanding deal right now on Luxury Mohair Throws made in Australia... they are half off regular retail - so just $69 each!  And they're available in a wide assortment of colors.  I love throw blankets not only for wrapping up on the couch, but also for a chic layering piece for the bed... a great way to add a dash of color to a room too!

Mohair comes from Angora goats and is lighter and warmer than wool.  It is durable and noted for its high luster and sheen.  These make a perfect gift for the holidays!

I am a big fan of superfine merino wool, you often find this quality in sweaters but not as often in blankets so I was very pleased to find this new blanket from the Company Store: Victoria Merino Blanket.  It is made with superfine Australian merino lambswool.  This quality of wool does not have any of the scratchiness often associated with wool!

It comes in sizes twin through king and runs from $199 up to $319 for the various sizes.  It is on introductory special right now though, through Sep. 15 only.  It is about 10% off.  I love the heathered gray color and the herringbone detail on the binding along the edges.  I also love that they actually offer a full size (80x90")... there is nothing more annoying than a "full/queen" when you have a full bed -- it is just too big.

I don't know about you, but I love bamboo!  I love the look of the wood and I love it as a fabric (aka "rayon from bamboo"), so wouldn't it be fun to have an all bamboo bed?

Here's a platform bed from Crate & Barrel that's made with solid bamboo, 'Bento Bed', $1599 for a queen.

Company Store has some great bamboo/cotton sheets.  They are 300 thread count and sold open stock.  A queen set adds up to $127.

This blanket is 100% bamboo, Bamboo Dreams Woven Blanket, a queen is $175.

Mohair is normally a very expensive fiber.  It is a silk-like fiber from the Angora goat. It is durable, warm, light and has very high luster and sheen.

Right now Linenplace has a crazy deal - mohair blankets, all sizes $99.  Yes, that is blanket, not throw, so this is really a very good deal.  The twin blanket is normally $228, queen $288 and king $348.  It comes in a nice palette of color options: champagne (similiar to ivory), blue, tea rose or flax (pictured below).

Pottery Barn Faux Fur Throw
December 9, 2009

Faux fur throw blankets hit the market several years ago (early 2000s I think) and have remained a surprisingly resilient item in the marketplace. I say surprising because there is a certain kitsch factor...

I have to confess however, that I have always liked faux fur throws.  Not the scary leopard or zebra ones but the classic ones that look like a mink coat made into a blanket...

Pottery Barn has a nice one this season and it's on sale now for $119 (regularly $149). They're also offering free shipping on this item.  The ivory one is already sold out.

I like the idea of draping the dark mink throw across the end of your bed... and making the bed up with some dramatic sheets like some old ones I have in my sheet collection, Ralph Lauren Galahad.
